The University of Michigan-Dearborn Player of the Week is freshman forward Christian Cuevas from the Wolverine men’s soccer team, it was announced by the athletic department on Tuesday.
Cuevas scored a goal and led the Wolverines to a 2-1 win over Olivet College last week, the first victory of the season and the first for new head coach Worteh Sampson.
Cuevas scored just minutes into the second half to break a scoreless tie, tucking a ball inside the near post on a brilliant header from senior Jacob Drzyzga. The Rockwood, Mich., native finished with seven shots, including two on net and has provided offensive punch for UM-Dearborn during the early season.
The Wolverines (1-1-0) return to action against Huntington University at 3 pm Saturday at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.
