MARLBOROUGH, Mass.- The No. 17 University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team lost to No. 1 Minot State University 7-0 on Friday (Mar. 17) in a second-round matchup. Top-seeded Minot State started firing on all cylinders and dominated from the start. However, the Beavers were too much for the Wolverines to overcome in a hard-hitting and hard-fought contest.

The Wolverines were on their heels early as the Beavers came out of the gate buzzing. The defense played well, and goalie Eric Polzin was busy, facing 20 shots in the first period. The size and speed of Minot State would prove to be too much for UM-Dearborn as the Beavers skated to a 3-0 lead on goals by Jay Buchholz, Troy Hamilton, and Davis Sheldon in the first period.

UM-Dearborn started the second period strong, but missed passes by the Wolverines led to quality scoring chances for the Beavers. At the 9:58 mark of the second, Landyn Cochrane was able to get a shot past goalie Pulzin for a 4-0 Beaver lead. Brayden Pawluk and Drew Carter added two more goals, extending the Beaver lead to 6-0. Wolverine Head Coach, Chris Haltinner, would pull Pulzin- in favor of backup netminder Tanner Beals to finish the game. The Wolverines' best scoring chance came in the second period when a laser off the stick of star forward Brendan West wrang off the post.

Things got heated in the third when defenseman Max Hartwell was called for a five-minute major penalty for kneeing at the 16:51 mark. The Beavers would add two more goals in the third by Joey Moffatt and Davis Shelton, his second of the game. With the 8-0 victory Minot State will advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday (Mar. 19), while the loss eliminates UM-Dearborn from further tournament play.
