Wolverines Take Two From Rochester, Winning Streak at Five Games

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich.- The University of Michigan- Dearborn softball team (15-10, 5-3) met the Rochester University Warriors ( 2-12, 0-8) at Detroit Country Day's Blue and Gold Stadium for a WHAC doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 8). The Wolverines would be the home team for both contests, sweeping away the Warriors to extend their winning streak to five games.

Game One

UM-Dearborn was down early in this one when Rochester jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. However, the Wolverines would storm right back into the game when Aspen Starr knocked one out of the park to make the score 3-1.

The Warriors would add another run in the top of the sixth to regain their three-run lead, 4-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Starr was hit by a pitch, scoring Shae Scott from third for her second RBI of the game, making the score 4-2. Amber Cheplick would score on a passed ball, bringing the Wolverines within a run. Next up, Olivia Scott singled, scoring Mia Nightingale and Katrina Caldwell. The two RBI base hit would complete the comeback for Dearborn in walk-off fashion.

Sydni Uhlenberg (6-3) had another strong performance in the circle for the win. Uhlenberg surrendered seven hits, four runs, and one walk and had five strikeouts in seven innings for the complete-game victory.

Game Two

The second game of the doubleheader started much the same as game one, with Rochester scoring first. In the top of the first inning, Sara Hall reached first on an error, advancing to third base, earning an RBI and the 1-0 lead for the Warriors.

Dearborn would waste no time in this one either when Lanie Ellinger hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the first, scoring Makenna Millhorn and giving the Wolverines the 2-1 lead.

Ryann Makowski had an RBI single in the bottom of the second, adding to the Wolverine lead 3-1.

Kylee Dillard would have an RBI single of her own to pull the Warriors within one in the top of the third 3-2. Fortunately, that's as close as Rochester would get.

It was all Dearbon after that. The Wolverine bats exploded for six more runs winning the game 9-2.

Sophomore right-hander Hannah Koch (5-4) started in the circle for Dearborn, striking out one hitter.

Lanie Ellinger entered the game in the top of the second, in relief of Koch, allowing three hits, two runs, three walks, and striking out five in six innings.
