Wolverines Drop Road Contest After Strong Second-Half From Golden Eagles

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After trailing by one heading into the locker room, the University of Michigan-Dearborn (1-10, 0-6) women's basketball team had high hopes during a road contest against the Cornerstone Golden Eagles (5-4, 4-2). The Golden Eagles outscored the Wolverines 31-20 in the final 20 minutes to take a 70-58 victory on Saturday (Dec. 16)

Maya Barakat led the Wolverines with a strong first half, scoring 11 of her 18 points. Barakat poured in 18 points and hauled in 13 rebounds. India Grissom recorded double-digit points, scoring 12 points in 27 minutes of work. 

The Wolverines committed 16 turnovers in the contest but equaled the Golden Eagles with 14 points off of turnovers. The Wolverines held the Golden Eagles to just 31.5% shooting from the field, but the outcome was created by the 20-3 difference in second-chance points.  

The game saw 10 lead changes and eight ties in a back-and-forth affair. 

The Wolverines will return on Wednesday (Dec. 20) against Spring Arbor (MI). Tip-off is set for Noon in a matinee matchup.
