Wolverines Hit Century Mark in Opening Night Victory

Wolverines Hit Century Mark in Opening Night Victory

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (1-0) men's basketball team had an offensive outburst in their opening night game against Penn State Schuylkill (0-2) on Sunday (Nov. 5). The Wolverines hit the 100-point mark in a thrilling 100-87 victory.

The Wolverines were led by Jimmy Breaux, who shot 10-14 from the field and tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds for UM-Dearborn. All five Wolverine starters scored in double figures, as the team shot over 55% from the field. Joshua Warren made his Wolverine debut and made it one to remember as he dished out nine assists to go with 19 points. Warren was also strong at the line, connecting on 6-of-7 attempts from the charity stripe. Making his collegiate debut, Jackson Reynolds made it look east, shooting 7-of-9 from the floor and 2-of-3 from behind the arc.

UM-Dearborn turned the ball over 24 times but limited the Nittany Lions ability to score off those extra possessions. The Wolverines were very effective in ensuring that Schuylkill was unable to score from behind the arc as they held them to 2-of-20 shooting from three. The biggest battle of the night was at the rim. The Wolverines needed to cut down the Nittany Lions chance points and Points off turnovers by ending possessions with rebounds. Head Coach Domenic Policicchio III runs a program built on toughness. Winning the rebounding battle each game is a staple of toughness, and the Wolverines won that 47-42.

The Wolverines will be back in action tomorrow (Nov. 6) against Point Park. Tip-off is at 1:00 pm.
