Campbell Beats the Buzzer, Wolverines' Defeat Cougars 70-68

Campbell Beats the Buzzer, Wolverines' Defeat Cougars 70-68

DEARBORN, Mich. -- Troy Campbell went the length of the court. He absorbed contact from two defenders to float the game-winning basket through the nylon and give the University of Michigan-Dearborn their first victory since Nov. 11. Campbell had shot 2-of-10 coming out of the timeout with 6.4 seconds remaining. Still, the moment was not too big for the junior guard as he hit the biggest shot of his Wolverine career to propel the Wolverines to a 70-68 victory over the Cleary Cougars on Wednesday (Jan. 17).

Campbell scored 10 points and had three rebounds and a pair of steals and assists. Jackson Reynolds led the Wolverines in scoring with 17 points and a clutch step-back jumper late in the shot-clock to tie the game at 68. Thomas Dillard had one of his best games in the Maize & Blue, scoring 13 points but tallied seven rebounds, two steals, and three blocks in 37 minutes of work.

Andrew Leamy was a sparkplug off the bench as he was +13 on the contest and hit a pair of clutch shots to give him 10 points.

The Cougars led at the break 43-33, and things were looking bleak for the Maize & Blue, but some crucial second-half adjustments and timely defensive stops kept the Wolverines close throughout. None more significant than on the Cougar's final possession when the Wolverines forced an errant pass out of bounds to give the Wolverines 6.4 seconds to go 94 feet and win the game.
