Barakat Has Huge Day, Wolverines Lose Against Madonna

DEARBORN, Mich. – Maya Barakat had a career day on Saturday (Dec. 2) at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse as the University of Michigan-Dearborn (1-7, 0-4) women's basketball senior exploded for a career-high 24 rebounds in a loss against Madonna (3-3, 1-2).

In a game that saw 18 lead changes, Barakat was the backbone of the Wolverines' offensive output. Barakat cleaned the glass, securing 24 of the Wolverines' 47 rebounds in the contest. The Wolverines outshot the Crusaders as a team, shooting 47.1% from the floor and 40% from behind the arc. However, the Crusader's pressure caused the Wolverines to have numerous empty possessions, forcing 26 Wolverine turnovers. Madonna scored 28 points off turnovers, causing the disparity in the final score.

Despite the offensive shortcomings, the Wolverines carried a one-point lead into the locker room after Shayla Bond nailed two right-wing triples late in the second quarter to give the Wolverines the edge heading into the break. 14 of Barakat's 24 rebounds came in the first 20 minutes of the contest.

The Wolverines are back in action on Wednesday (Dec. 6) at home. Tip-off is set for 5:30.
