Wolverines hold on for 4-3 over No. 9 Panthers

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team picked up a big win over No. 9 Davenport University in a nonconference contest Friday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

The No. 5 Wolverines jumped out to a two-goal lead early in the first to take control. Davenport hung around the entire contest, cutting three different two-goal leads to one, but UM-Dearborn held on for a 4-3 win to move to 18-6-2 this season.

Nic LaBurn got the scoring starting less than two minutes into the game on an assist from Justin Dunn. Mathieu LaForest made it 2-0 in the seventh minute with the assist to Adam Groat and Sean McLaren.

After Davenport scored its first of the game, Dunn found a loose puck with under two to play in the first and put it in the net to make it 3-1 after one. The Panthers cut it to one goal seven minutes into the second, but Billy Brock deflected home a goal with assists to Adam Groat and Cameron Rossman, his first point as a Wolverine.

The Panthers added a goal in the third, but UM-Dearborn's defense shut Davenport down the rest of the way for the win. Thomas Proudlock made 32 saves in net for UM-Dearborn.

The Wolverines return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with three games next week against Lawrence Tech starting at 7 pm Thursday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
