UM-Dearborn falls in OT on Homecoming

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team hosted No. 2 Lindenwood University in front of a packed crowd on Homecoming Night Friday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

For a second consecutive night, the No. 4 Wolverines withstood a strong offensive showing from the Lions and forced overtime with the score tied at 1-1. Lindenwood took advantage of open ice in the 3-on-3 extra frame and netted the game-winner to escape with the 2-1 win and a series split.

The overtime loss moves UM-Dearborn to 1-0-1 on the season as the team prepares to open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play next weekend.

Lindenwood took the lead with 6:20 to play in the first on a goal from Brendon Murphy. The Wolverines answered with Silas Johnson netting the tying goal early in the second on an assist from Billy Brock.

The teams battled back and forth in the third, with neither able to find the go-ahead tally. Aapo Nurminen scored for the Lions 53 seconds into the extra frame to hand UM-Dearborn the overtime loss.

Thomas Proudlock was spectacular for the Wolverines for a second consecutive night, stopping 28 shots as Lindenwood held the advantage in shots 30-17.

UM-Dearborn opens the WHAC season against Concordia University at 7 pm Friday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
