ATHENS, Ohio – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team earned a pair of shootout wins over No. 13 Ohio University on the road, at one of the toughest ACHA DI arenas to play in, Friday and Saturday at Bird Arena in Athens, Ohio.

The No. 2 Wolverines battled through a back-and-forth game one before getting the shootout game-winner from Joseph Crump in the seventh round following the overtime period ending with the score tied 3-3. In the finale, Nic LaBurn tied the game at 2-2 with 1:20 left in regulation, setting up another overtime session and the eventual shootout. Justin Dunn lifted the Wolverines to the win with a shootout goal in the fourth round.

The wins move UM-Dearborn to 8-1-1 overall this season.

In the opener, the Wolverines got on the board first with a goal from Billy Brock in the opening period on assists from Silas Johnson and Mathieu LaForest, but the Bobcats rallied with two goals later in the opening 20 minutes.

Jared Lee took a pass from Dunn to tie the score in the second for UM-Dearborn, while LaBurn added his first of the weekend early in the third from Dunn and Brock. Ohio tied the score at 3-3 four minutes later and regulation ended in a tie.

UM-Dearborn goaltender Thomas Proudlock stopped every shot he saw in the shootout, setting up Crump for the game-winner in the seventh round.  Proudlock made 33 saves in the win.

In game two, the Wolverines tied the score at 1-1 with a goal from Brock, but Ohio regained the lead early in the second. LaBurn broke through with the equalizer late in regulation to force the second shootout in the series.

Ohio scored in the first round of the shootout, but Crump evened it in round three, while Dunn netted the game-winner in the fourth.

Proudlock was strong in net again, making 36 saves and stopping three of four in the shootout.

UM-Dearborn returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference competition against Lawrence Tech at 5:45 pm Friday in Southfield, Mich.
