FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – After clinching the regular season Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference title, the No. 6 University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey took on the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils in the WHAC Postseason Tournament semifinals Saturday at the Farmington Ice Arena in Farmington Hills, Mich.
After falling behind late in the second period, the Wolverines clawed back with four goals in the third to win 5-2 over the Blue Devils. The win moves UM-Dearborn to 26-6-2 as they advance to the WHAC championship game Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first period, Justin Dunn opened up the scoring on the power play from Dawson Richard midway through the second. LTU responded with two goals in two minutes as the Blue Devils took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Wolverine offense got on track in the third as Brendan West and Mikhail Khudenko scored goals in the first seven minutes of the final frame. Dunn added his second of night with four minutes to play, while Billy Brock scored an empty netter late to ice the game for UM-Dearborn.
Dawson Richard had a team-high two assists in the game, while Thomas Proudlock got the start in goal, making 20 saves in the winning effort.
The Wolverines advance to the championship game to take on the winner of Indiana Tech and Aquinas College.
