Proudlock stands tall in opening night win over No. 2 Lions

DEARBORN, Mich.  – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team opened the 2019-20 season in impressive fashion with a tough win over No. 2 Lindenwood University Thursday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

The No. 4 Wolverines were led by a senior goaltender Thomas Proudlock, who made several spectacular saves, including two diving back across the cage to hold off a potent Lion offense and lift UM-Dearborn to a 3-1 win.

After Lindenwood scored less than four minutes into the second, UM-Dearborn answered a minute later on a goal from senior Nic LaBurn, with assists to Kyle Schnettler and Sterling Cooper.

The Wolverines took the lead with 33 seconds left in the second. as Schnettler let a shot go from the point, which was deflected by Silas Johnson and deflected in by Dawson Richard.

Lindenwood outshot the Wolverines 12-1 in the third, but the one UM-Dearborn shot on goal was an empty-net tally for Michael Hodgson to secure the win.

Proudlock finished with 37 saves in the win, as UM-Dearborn was outshot 38-10.

The Wolverines host Lindenwood for the series finale on Homecoming at 7 pm Friday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free 'born BLUE T-shirt. A pregame tailgate with free food, games, and entertainment will take place starting at 5 pm at the South CASL Field adjacent to the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
