DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team fell to Indiana Tech in the finale of the two-game Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference series Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
The No. 8 Warriors scored three power-play goals in the first period and led throughout the contest, topping the No. 6 Wolverines 5-2. The loss snaps a three-game win streak for the Wolverines and drops the team to 16-4-1 overall and 11-2-0 in the WHAC.
UM-Dearborn falls into a tie with Indiana Tech with 22 points in the WHAC standings, but the Wolverines do have a game in hand on the Warriors with the season heading toward its conclusion over the next month.
After Indiana Tech got goals from Ryan Atwood and Joel Holmberg in the first, Justin Dunn got UM-Dearborn on the board with his 15th of the season with a shorthanded tally on an assist from Brendan West.
The Warriors answered less than two minutes later and added a goal early in the second to stretch the lead to three. Dawson Richard earned a goal for the Wolverines on a rebound with eight minutes left in the third to make it 4-2, but the Warriors answered quickly again, capitalizing on a turnover 1:13 later to put the game away.
Thomas Proudlock made 43 saves in the loss for UM-Dearborn, while Ryan O'Toole stopped 46 shots for Indiana Tech.
The Wolverines return to action against No. 10 Stony Brook University at 7 pm Sunday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
