Wolverines take WHAC Tournament title with 4-2 win over Aquinas

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The No. 6 University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey took on the Aquinas College Saints in the WHAC Postseason Tournament championship game Sunday in Farmington Hills, Mich.

After falling behind early, the Wolverines responded with two goals in the first and one in each of the final two periods to secure a 4-2 victory and claim their second WHAC postseason championship. The win moves UM-Dearborn to 27-6-2 as the Wolverines await their seed for the ACHA DI National Tournament later this month.

Dawson Richard got the Wolverines on board just four minutes after the Saints took an early 1-0 lead with assists going to John Ames and Dakota Potter. Nic Laburn followed up with a power-play goal from Billy Brock and Brendan West midway through the opening frame to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Anthony Davis joined in on the offense as he scored five minutes into the second period from West and Brock. Aquinas responded on the power play midway through the second, but a late third-period power-play goal from Mikhail Khudenko on assists from Justin Dunn and Kyle Schnettler sealed the victory for UM-Dearborn.

Thomas Proudlock got the start and was stellar in goal for the Wolverines, making 37 saves in the winning effort.

UM-Dearborn will return to action in the ACHA National Tournament later this month in Frisco, Texas.
