UM-Dearborn season ends in WHAC quarterfinal

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team fell in the quarterfinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament to Rochester University Wednesday at Garth Pleasant Arena in Rochester Hills, Mich.

The No. 3 seed Warriors built a 10-point lead at the break with a late first-half run. UM-Dearborn, the No. 6 seed, was unable to recover in the second half, falling 80-70.

The loss ends the season for the Wolverines with a record of 17-14 overall.

Damian Forrest, who was named to the WHAC All-Freshman Team on Wednesday, had a career night for the Wolverines. The Fort Collins, Colo., native scored a career-best 25 points on 12-of-17 shooting, adding six rebounds off the bench.

In his final game as a Wolverine, Cody Kegley scored 12 points and added six rebounds. Kegley was named to the All-WHAC Second Team for the second time in his career on Wednesday. Elwood Tomlinson continued his late-season run with 12 points.

The Wolverines shot 31-of-60 from the field, 5-of-17 from deep and 3-of-3 from the line.

Armand Cartwright led the Warriors with 35 points, including eight 3-pointers. Rochester will move on to play No. 2 seed Madonna University on Saturday. No. 5 Cornerstone will travel to No. 1 Indiana Tech in the other WHAC semifinal.
