Men's Basketball receives several WHAC honors

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team recently concluded the 2019-20 regular season and the Wolverines picked up several postseason awards from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, it was announced Wednesday.

Senior Cody Kegley and junior Jason Gigliotti were both named the All-WHAC Second Team after their outstanding seasons. The award is the third All-WHAC honor for Kegley, who was named to the Second Team in 2017-18 and the All-Freshman Team in 2016-17. The honor is the first Gigliotti.

Kegley enters the WHAC Postseason Tournament averaging a career-high 12.8 points per game. He has made 123 shots from 3-point range this season while adding 3.5 assists, five rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.

Gigliotti is averaging a team-high 14 points per game, making 54.4 percent of his shots from the field. He is nearly averaging a double-double with 9.3 rebounds per game to go along with 1.2 blocks per game.

Wolverine newcomer Damian Forrest was named to the WHAC All-Freshman team after a strong first season with UM-Dearborn. He is averaging 7.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game at the forward position.

For the second time in his career, senior Jared Jackson was named to the WHAC Champions of Character Team, while Mahdi Hamade, Mathew Mignault, Nathan Mruzik, Jalen Paul, Brandon Recto and Reid Sellers all earned a spot on the WHAC All-Academic Team.

The Wolverines open the WHAC Postseason Tournament as the No. 6 seed against No. 3 seed Rochester University at 7:30 pm Wednesday in Rochester Hills, Mich.
