LIMA, Ohio – For the second straight game, the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team lost a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest in heartbreaking fashion, falling to the University of Northwestern Ohio Saturday in Lima, Ohio.
The No. 21 Wolverines led by four points with 25 seconds remaining after a layup from Jason Gigliotti, but UNOH answered immediately with a 3-pointer to cut the UM-Dearborn advantage to one. After a turnover by the Wolverines, Elijah Pughsley hit a layup with seven seconds left to put the Racers up one.
Gigliotti was fouled with four seconds on the clock but was unable to convert at the line and UNOH held on for a 66-65 win. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 13-6 overall and 6-3 in the WHAC.
Gigliotti led the Wolverines with 14 points on 7-of-14 shooting, while adding 13 rebounds for a double-double. Zach Lattimer added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, while Elwood Tomlinson finished with 11 points off the bench.
UM-Dearborn shot 27-of-61 from the field, 9-of-25 from deep and 2-of-4 at the line.
The Racers were led by 22 points from Nathan Lessing and 18 from Pughsley.
UM-Dearborn closes the first half of the WHAC schedule against Indiana Tech at 8 pm Wednesday in Fort Wayne, Ind.
