No. 14 IU-East holds off UM-Dearborn 77-74

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team dropped a close contest to No. 14 Indiana University-East Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines chipped away at a 15-point deficit midway through the second half and earned a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds but two three-point attempts on the final possession of the game missed the mark and the Red Wolves held on to escape with a 77-74 win.

The loss is the second straight for the Wolverines, who fall to 6-2 on the season.

Jason Gigliotti continued to dominate in the middle for the Wolverines with 16 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double. Cody Kegley, who was honored prior to the game for recently scoring his 1,000th-career-point on Tuesday, added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Damian Forrest added 11 points, six rebounds and two blocks off the bench, while Donovan Farrell added nine points.

The Wolverines shot 26-of-71 from the field, 4-of-20 from deep and 18-of-28 from the line.

Bishop Smith scored a game-high 32 points, including eight 3-pointers to lead the Red Wolves.

The Wolverines open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against Aquinas College at 7:30 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
