Lattimer's 9 threes pace Wolverines in opening win

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with a convincing win over Grace Christian University Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

Sophomore Zach Lattimer tied a long-standing program record for outside shooting, as the Wolverines cruised to a 100-59 win over the Tigers to start the sixth season under Head Coach Taylor Langley 1-0.

Lattimer hit nine 3-pointers to tie the record set by UM-Dearborn Hall of Famer Patrick Hughes in 1997, with his last coming from well beyond the arc in the final minutes of the victory. Lattimer set a career-high with 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting to lead the Wolverines.

After redshirting a year ago, senior Donovan Farrell returned to the court to score 10 points, while junior Jason Gigliotti scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. Senior Cody Kegley finished with 10 points and four assists, while Jalen Paul narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and 12 assists.

The Wolverine bench was strong as well with sophomore Reid Sellers and freshman Damian Forrest each recording seven points and nine rebounds, while Mathew Mignault added seven points.

The Wolverines shot a strong 40-of-75 from the field, and 13-of-30 from deep and 7-of-16 at the line, while outrebounding the Tigers 46-28.

The Tigers had three players record 10 points in the contest and were held to 38.2 percent from the field.

UM-Dearborn is on the road for its next six games, starting with a trip to Holy Cross College at 7 pm Tuesday in Notre Dame, Ind.
