EMU tops UM-Dearborn men 72-59 in exhibition

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team played an exhibition game against NCAA Division I foe Eastern Michigan University Thursday at the EMU Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Mich.

The Wolverines led early and outscored the Eagles 34-29 in the second half, but a run by the Eagles late in the opening 20 minutes was too much for UM-Dearborn to overcome as EMU prevailed 72-59.

Three free throws by Cody Kegley, the newest member of the UM-Dearborn 1,000-point club, just over four minutes into the game gave the Wolverines a 10-7 lead. EMU closed the half, outscoring UM-Dearborn 36-15.

The Wolverines chipped away at the Eagle lead in the second half but were unable to get the deficit under double digits as EMU held on.

Kegley led the Wolverines with 14 points, including three 3-pointers, adding six rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Jason Gigliotti narrowly missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Damian Forrest recorded eight points off the bench.

The Wolverines shot 21-of-50 from the field, 10-of-28 from deep and 7-of-11 from the line.

Boubacar Toure and Chris James each scored 15 points to lead the Eagles.

UM-Dearborn (6-1) returns home to host Indiana University-East at 1 pm Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
