Wolverines break through with 70-65 win over Blue Devils

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team got back in the win column in a back-and-forth Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game against Lawrence Tech Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines (RV) snapped a six-game losing skid with a 70-65 win over the Blue Devils to improve to 14-10 overall and 7-7 in the WHAC.

Up 65-57 with 3:23 to play, UM-Dearborn saw its lead slip away as LTU went on an 8-0 run to tie the score, capped by a Jordan Henry 3-pointer. The Wolverines answered on the next possession with a power move and layup from Jason Gigliotti to go up by two. UM-Dearborn stopped the Blue Devils the rest of the way and made its free throws to secure the win.

Cody Kegley led the Wolverines with 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. The 20 points scored by Kegley tied him with Ron Stempin (1991-95) in eighth place on the UM-Dearborn all-time scoring list with 1,206 career points.

Zach Lattimer came off the bench to score 14 points, including four 3-pointers and two critical free throws in the final seconds to close the game. Damian Forrest added 12 points off the bench, while Jared Jackson scored eight.

The Wolverines shot 23-of-61 from the field, 6-of-21 from deep and 18-of-23 at the line, outrebounding the Blue Devils 37-30.

LTU had five finish in double figures led by 13 points and eight rebounds from Gunnar Gustafson.

UM-Dearborn hits the road to take on WHAC frontrunner, No. 13 Lourdes University at 6 pm Wednesday in Sylvania, Ohio.
