WHAC Champions: No. 2 Wolverines Secure WHAC Title

FRASER, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn won the first ever Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship with a win over Rochester College Saturday at the Fraser Hockey Land Arena in Fraser, Mich.

The Wolverines scored four times in the second period to shutout the Warriors 4-0 for a 14th consecutive win, improving to 25-2-1 overall and 9-1-0 in the WHAC. With the victory, UM-Dearborn also clinches the number one seed in the upcoming WHAC Postseason Tournament March 8-10 at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

Tyler Groat got the scoring started, giving the Wolverines a 1-0 lead early in the second. UM-Dearborn added three more goals in just over eight minutes as Michael Hodgson, Silas Johnson and Justin Dunn all found the back of the net.

Conor Cunningham finished two assists, while Sterling Cooper, Tyler Dalton, John Ames and Thomas Proudlock each added one helper.

In goal, Proudlock earned his 22nd victory, making 11 saves in just over 32 minutes, before being replaced by Rafael Goncalves. The first-year goaltender added nine saves to keep the Warriors off the scoresheet.

UM-Dearborn returns to action on Senior Night at 7 pm Friday against Toledo at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
