No. 2 Wolverines earn sweep at No. 15 Stony Brook

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. – The No. 2 University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team extended its winning streak to eight games after sweeping No. 15 Stony Brook University over the weekend.

The Wolverines defeated the Seawolves 4-1 on Saturday and 4-2 on Sunday to improve to 9-1 on the season. UM-Dearborn has not lost a game since the first weekend of the season.

On Saturday, the Wolverines were led by Tyler Groat with two goals, including the game-winner early in the second period. Billy Brock continued his strong offensive production with three assists, while Kevin Bechard and John Barlow each scored late in the third period to put the game out of reach.

UM-Dearborn outshot SBU 36-23 as Thomas Proudlock recorded 22 saves in goal.

The following day, the Wolverines made a comeback in the third period, scoring three times to earn the sweep.

Conor Cunningham got the scoring started with a power-play goal in the first period. After the Wolverines surrendered two power-play in the second, Zach Nichols tied the game with an even-strength goal on assists from Brock and Kyle Schnettler 8:28 into the third.

Bechard put UM-Dearborn in front 49 seconds later and Groat scored the 98th goal of his career with 26 seconds left to secure the win. Brock finished with two assists while Proudlock recorded 33 saves to improve to 7-1 on the season.

The No. 2 Wolverines return to action against No. 3 Adrian College at 7 pm on Tuesday at the Arrington Ice Arena in Adrian, Mich.
