Wolverines Sweep Weekly WHAC Honors

DEARBORN, Mich. – The No. 2 University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team cruised to a series sweep of Eastern Michigan University last week to move its win streak to five games.

The Wolverines topped the Eagles 8-1 on Thursday and returned home to earn a 9-0 shutout at home on Friday. The sweep pushed UM-Dearborn to 16-2-1 overall this season.

Tyler Groat led the Wolverines on offense, while Thomas Proudlock backstopped the UM-Dearborn defense. For their efforts, Groat and Proudlock were named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Players of the Week, it was announced by the league on Monday.

For Groat, the Offensive Player of the Week honor is his third straight and the sixth for the Wolverines this season (Billy Brock, 2, Justin Dunn, 1). Groat scored seven goals over the two games, including four on Thursday and three on Friday.

Groat has scored a goal in all but two games of his 19 games played this season. He has totaled five games with a hat trick and in the four games since returning from the semester break, Groat has 13 goals to bring his season total to a team-leading 25.

Proudlock's Defensive Player of the Week award is his fourth of the season and fifth for the Wolverines overall (Troy Saunders, 1). In the series with the Eagles, Proudlock stopped 45 of the 46 shots he faced, earning the shutout in the finale.

Through 18 appearances, Proudlock is 15-2-1 with a 1.90 goals against average and .932 save percentage.

The Wolverines return to action against Calvin College at 7 pm Friday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
