No. 2 UM-Dearborn completes sweep of WMU

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's hockey team remained undefeated at home after sweeping Western Michigan University on Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

The No. 2 Wolverines trailed after the first period before erupting for four goals in the second on their way to a 5-3 win and a sweep of the weekend series. The win pushes UM-Dearborn to 7-0-1 on home ice and 14-2-1 overall.

Western Michigan got the scoring started in the first period as Devin Farkas beat UM-Dearborn goaltender Thomas Proudlock to make it 1-0. In the second, UM-Dearborn scored three times in 3:16 as Andrew Spiegel, Tyler Groat and Billy Brock quickly gave the Wolverines the momentum.

Michael Hodgson was released from the penalty as the Stallions failed to take advantage of a 5-on-3 and raised up ice on a breakaway to score the fourth goal of the period for the Wolverines.

In the third, Kevin Bechard added an insurance goal to secure the win for UM-Dearborn.

Brock led the way offensively with a goal and two assists while Justin Dunn added two helpers. Spiegel finished with a team-high eight shots as the Wolverines outshot the Stallions 40-33.

Proudlock made 30 saves for his 13th win of the season.

UM-Dearborn returns to action against Eastern Michigan University at 7 pm Thursday at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube in Ann Arbor, Mich.
