No. 2 Wolverines top No. 3 Bulldogs in Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. – The No. 2 University of Michigan-Dearborn men's hockey team defeated No. 3 Adrian College on the road on Thursday at the Arrington Ice Arena.

The Wolverines moved in front with a second-period goal from Silas Johnson and added two in the third to top the defending ACHA Division I national champion 4-1. The win is the 10th straight for the Wolverines, who finish 2-0-1 against Adrian this season and improve to 21-2-1 on the season.

Tyler Groat scored in the first period as his 30th of the season gave UM-Dearborn a 1-0 lead.

After Adrian's Rainer Glimpel capitalized on a penalty shot to tie the game in the second period, Johnson scored unassisted to put UM-Dearborn up 2-1 after two. The Wolverines stifled the Bulldog offense in the third, holding Adrian College to 10 shots, and minimal scoring chances.

With just over 12 minutes remaining, Andrew Spiegel entered the zone on a 2-on-1 and fired a shot past Bulldog goaltender Michael Barrett to put the game out of reach. An empty-netter from Kevin Bechard increased the lead to three before the final buzzer sounded and gave UM-Dearborn its 10th straight victory.

The Wolverines outshot the Bulldogs 31-30, as Thomas Proudlock made 29 saves, surrendering his only goal of the night on a penalty shot.

The Wolverines return to conference play as they travel to Lawrence Tech in the opener of a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference home-and-home series at 6 pm on Friday at the Southfield Sports Arena in Southfield, Mich.
