UM-Dearborn takes 6-0 win in opener with Calvin

DEARBORN, Mich. – The No. 2 University of Michigan-Dearborn men's hockey team extended its winning streak to six games after shutting out Calvin College on Friday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

The Wolverines took advantage of an early power play to take the lead before adding three more before the first intermission on their way to a 6-0 win. A second straight shutout pushes UM-Dearborn to 17-2-1 on the season.

Andrew Spiegel got the scoring started, capitalizing off a feed from Kevin Bechard on the power play to put the Wolverines up 1-0. After Tyler Groat added his 26th of the season, John Barlow and Bechard scored 65 seconds apart in the final minutes of the first to make it 4-0.

Leading the way offensively was Billy Brock with one goal and two assists. Bechard, Groat, and Spiegel added a goal and an assist each, while Chase Best recorded two assists.

Thomas Proudlock made 14 saves to earn his second straight shutout and 16th win of the season.

The Wolverines return to action at 8:10 pm tomorrow against the Calvin at the Eagles Ice Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
