Wolverines sweep WHAC honors for 5th time

DEARBORN, Mich. – For the fifth time this season, the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team has swept the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference weekly honors after a three-win run last week.

The No. 2 Wolverines earned a crucial road win at No. 3 Adrian College on Thursday before sweeping a home-and-home WHAC series with Lawrence Tech to move into a first-place tie in the league standings.

UM-Dearborn has won 12 straight and is perfect since the calendar changed to 2019. The Wolverines are 23-2-1 overall and 7-1-0 in the WHAC with four games remaining in the regular season.

For their efforts last week, Tyler Groat and Thomas Proudlock were named the WHAC Players of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.

The award is the fourth of the season for Groat, who scored five goals in the three games last week, including the first goal against Adrian to put the Wolverines up early. He scored two goals in each game against LTU.

Groat leads the Wolverines in goals this season with 34 and has scored in 15 of his last 16 outings.

Proudlock appeared in all three games last week, earning two wins, including 29 saves against Adrian and 28 saves in game one at LTU. He entered the final game of the weekend on Saturday against LTU at the start of the second period and finished the contest in net.

Proudlock is 20-2-1 in net this season with a 1.69 goals-against average and .937 save percentage.

The Wolverines close the WHAC regular season with a home-and-home series with Rochester College starting at 7 pm Friday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena. A sweep will lock up the WHAC regular season title for the Wolverines.

NOTE: UM-Dearborn has 16 of the 30 total WHAC Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week Awards this season.
