MBB Weekly Notes: UM-Dearborn looks to rebound with two tough road games

FULL GAME NOTES

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team has no time to think about an upset loss to Marygrove College over the weekend as the Wolverines hit the road for two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference games this week, starting with a trip to No. 1 Cornerstone University at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

This Week's Schedule
2/8/17: at No. 1 Cornerstone at 7:30 P.M.
2/11/17: at Madonna at 3 P.M.

Team Update

The Wolverines split a pair of home games last week, rolling past Lawrence Technological University on a historic night on Wednesday, while dropping a heartbreaker to Marygrove College on Saturday. Against LTU, junior forward Jason Penn recorded his 1,000th-career point, becoming the first Wolverine to do so since Jamiel Strickland in 2014-15. While it was a special night for Penn, it was senior Marcus Williams who put on a show. Williams scored a career-high 37 points, hitting five 3-pointers and hitting 15 total field goals. Williams added six rebounds in the 86-72 win over the Blue Devils. The Wolverines' postseason plans hit a speed bump when an upstart Marygrove team came into the Fieldhouse and knocked off UM-Dearborn 84-76. The loss dropped the Wolverines into a three-way tie for fourth in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with Aquinas College and the University of Northwestern Ohio. The top four seeds in the WHAC postseason tournament host in the first round.

Who's Hot

Marcus Williams is making a late season push to reach 1,000-career points in his second and last season with the Wolverines. Williams sits at 886 with four regular season games remaining. If Williams scores his average for the rest of the regular season and the first round of the WHAC tournament he would finish his career with 975 points. A run in the postseason would greatly increase the chances for Williams to join Jason Penn in the 1,000-point club.

History

No. 1 Cornerstone topped the Wolverines 75-72 earlier this season at the Fieldhouse. The Golden Eagles are undefeated against UM-Dearborn since 2003.

UM-Dearborn topped Madonna at home earlier this season.
