Wolverine offense shines in road win at Kokomo

KOKOMO, Ind. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball shot better than 50 percent from the field and overcame a second-half run from Indiana University-Kokomo to earn a nonconference road win Saturday in Kokomo, Ind.

The Wolverines led by eight at the half, but the Cougars scored the first nine points of the second to gain the advantage. UM-Dearborn used a 17-2 run that started with 11 minutes to play to pull ahead for good in a 90-76 victory. The win moves UM-Dearborn to 7-3 overall.

Jason Penn (JR/Detroit, MI) dominated inside for the Wolverines, scoring 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while hitting 7-of-9 free throws. Marcus Williams (SR/Lagos, Nigeria) added 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting, while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Xavier Crofford (SO/Detroit, MI) continued his strong play with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Cody Kegley (FR/Yale, MI) scored eight points off the bench, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Jeff Cain (SR/Lansing, MI ), Alex Hagel (SO/Macomb, MI) and Deonte Bell (SO/Romulus, MI) each added six points.

The Wolverines shot 32-of-61 from the field, 8-of-22 from deep and 18-of-27 from the line. UM-Dearborn won the rebounding battle 39-37, while finishing with nine assists and 15 turnovers.

Trent Elliot scored a team-high 19 points for the Cougars, while Jonathan Hurt added 15. Kokomo shot 25-of-64 from the field, 10-of-28 from behind the 3-point line and 16-of-17 on free throws.

The Wolverines return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action against the University of Northwestern Ohio at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Lima, Ohio.
