Hagel's late bucket leads to UM-Dearborn OT win

CHICAGO - The University of Michigan-Dearborn won its third straight game, rallying to top Roosevelt University in overtime of a nonconference matchup Saturday in Chicago.

Trailing by seven with 10 minutes to play, the Wolverines chipped away to even the score at 67 with 1:25 to go. The Lakers hit a pair of free throws to take a two-point lead with 29 seconds left. UM-Dearborn forced overtime with a layup from Marcus Williams (SR/Lagos, Nigeria) with six seconds left in regulation to force the extra frame.

Ashton Curd (JR/Detroit, MI) scored five points in overtime, but the Wolverines found themselves in a 78-78 tie with 35 seconds to go. After a Curd Layup failed, Alex Hagel (SO/Macomb, MI) got the tip in to give UM-Dearborn the 80-78 win, moving the Wolverines to 3-2 overall this season.

Hagel finished with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Williams also scored 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while adding four rebounds. Xavier Crofford (SO/Detroit, MI) scored 13 points, grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and added five assists.

The Wolverines got 31 points off the bench from three players, led by Curd with 12. Curd added six assists, two blocks and two steals. Jason Penn (JR/Detroit, MI) finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Jeff Cain (SR/Lansing, MI ) added nine points.

UM-Dearborn was 28-of-65 from the field, 9-of-20 from deep and 15-of-22 from the free-throw line, while finishing with 19 assists and nine turnovers. The Wolverines won the rebounding battle 37-33.

Korey Ryan scored a game-high 25 points, including six 3-pointers off the bench, while Jake Ludwig scored 20 points.

UM-Dearborn returns home to take on Spring Arbor University at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Fieldhouse in Dearborn.
