UNOH holds off UM-Dearborn men 73-66

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team rallied late in an attempt to knock off the University of Northwestern Ohio, but the Racers held with big shots down the stretch to take a late-season Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines cut the UNOH lead to just two points with five minutes to go on a 3-pointer from Jeff Cain (SR/Lansing, MI ), but the 12th triple of the game for the Racers put the visitors back up by seven just moments later. UNOH hit its free throws down the stretch to hold on for the 73-66 win, dropping the Wolverines to 18-11 overall and 12-9 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines were led by Jason Penn (JR/Detroit, MI) with 18 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, while shooting 7-of-9 from the floor.

Marcus Williams (SR/Lagos, Nigeria) added 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Ashton Curd (JR/Detroit, MI) came off the bench to score 12 points, including nine in the second half. Xavier Crofford (SO/Detroit, MI) finished with a team-high eight assists.

The Wolverines shot 25-of-55 from the field, 6-of-23 from deep and 10-of-14 from the line, while totaling 15 assists and 15 turnovers. UNOH outrebounded UM-Dearborn 29-26.

UNOH was led by Corbin Pierce off the bench with 17 points, while Lawrence Jackson added 12 points and seven rebounds. The Racers shot 28-of-59 from the field, 12-of-32 from deep and 5-of-10 from the free-throw line.

UM-Dearborn closes the regular season against Aquinas College at 3 p.m. Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse. The Wolverines will honor seniors Jeff Cain and Marcus Williams in a ceremony prior to the contest.
