This Week's Schedule
1/25/17: at (18) Indiana Tech at 8 p.m.
Team Update
Last week saw UM-Dearborn take a huge step toward the top of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with a pair of road victories, highlighted by topping No. 8 Davenport University last Wednesday in Grand Rapids. The Wolverines battled through early foul trouble to key players and got significant contributions from senior Jeff Cain (SR/Lansing, MI ) and freshman Cody Kegley (FR/Yale, MI), holding off the Panthers 65-62. The win was the second this season over a highly-ranked Davenport team, which fell in Dearborn to the Wolverines in overtime to open the conference schedule. UM-Dearborn avoided a let down and avenged an early-season loss to Siena Heights University with a 72-66 victory on Saturday in Adrian. With five straight wins, the Wolverines are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll for the second time this season.
Who's Hot
Junior forward Jason Penn (JR/Detroit, MI) is marching towards 1,000-career points, needing just 22 more to become the first player since Jamiel Strickland in 2015 to reach the milestone and the first to be recruited by third-year head coach Taylor Langley. Penn already has a career-high 337 points in 2016-17, with seven games left on the regular-season schedule. He is averaging 14.7 points per game to go along with a team-best 6.9 rebounds.
History
The Wolverines knocked off Indiana Tech earlier this season 66-62 when the Warriors were ranked No. 20 in the nation. Indiana Tech topped UM-Dearborn in both contests a year ago. The Warriors went from receiving votes to No. 18 in the latest NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll.
