UM-Dearborn sets new program wins record, tops Lourdes 75-60

DEARBORN, Mich. - For the first time in program history, the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team has reached 14 wins in a single season after a one-sided victory over Lourdes University Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines pulled away in the first half and withstood a frantic rally by Lourdes to emerge with the 75-60 win, the third straight and sixth out the last seven for UM-Dearborn, which moves to 14-7 overall and 8-5 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

After the Gray Wolves cut the Wolverine advantage to three just over five minutes into the second half, UM-Dearborn reestablished control with a 10-2 run, which included a pair of 3-pointers from Marcus Williams (SR/Lagos, Nigeria). From there, the Wolverine's tight defense and efficient offense secured the win, setting a new program best.

Williams continues to lead the UM-Dearborn offense, pouring in a team-high 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting, while netting three 3-pointers. Jason Penn (JR/Detroit, MI) just missed a double-double, finishing with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Jeff Cain (SR/Lansing, MI ) added 12 points, including a pair of triples. Alex Hagel (SO/Macomb, MI) came of the bench and provided a spark with 11 points and four rebounds, while Donovan Farrell (SO/Detroit, MI) added a team-high six assists.

The Wolverines shot 32-of-64 from the field, 7-of-21 from deep and 4-of-8 from the free-throw line, while totaling 18 assists and just seven turnovers. UM-Dearborn was outrebounded 33-31.

The Gray Wolves were led by Desmond Frazier with a game-high 21 points, while Anthony Swanigan added 15 points. Lourdes shot 22-of-52 from the field, 8-of-22 from 3-point range and 8-of-12 from the line.

The game took place following the dedication of the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse hardwood floor.

UM-Dearborn hits the road for three straight starting with a trip to No. 8 Davenport at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
