DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team found itself in a close game at the break against the University of Akron Wayne College, but a big second half for the Wolverines led to a victory in the home opener Thursday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines outscored the Warriors 69-34 in the second half, including opening the frame with a 13-0 run, en route to a 113-67 win, which evens the team's record at 2-2 this season. The point total is the largest for the Wolverines since before 2003-04.

Marcus Williams (SR/Lagos, Nigeria) put together his best performance of the season, scoring 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including six made 3-pointers. Williams added 10 rebounds for a double-double, while posting two blocks, two steals and four assists.

Jason Penn (JR/Detroit, MI) was nearly perfect from the floor, making 8-of-9 shots to finish with 17 points. Xavier Crofford (SO/Detroit, MI) and Alex Hagel (SO/Macomb, MI) each scored 13, while Donovan Farrell (SO/Detroit, MI) added 10.

The Wolverines took care of the basketball and attacked the offensive glass. UM-Dearborn recorded 19 assists to just six turnovers, while grabbing 48 rebounds, including 18 on the offensive end. The Wolverines forced 15 turnovers by the Warriors, who finished with 21 rebounds.

The Warriors were led by Anthony Keys with 13 points, while Brandon Taylor-Mitchell came off the bench to add 11 points.

UM-Dearborn hits the road for a nonconference matchup with Roosevelt University at 4 p.m. Saturday in Chicago.
