Lourdes tops UM-Dearborn Men 68-64

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team hit the road for the first time in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play in the 2016-17 season, falling to the Gray Wolves in a close matchup Saturday in Sylvania, Ohio.

The Wolverines had chances throughout a close contest, but the Gray Wolves held on late for a 68-64 win to top UM-Dearborn 68-64. The loss snaps a five-game win streak for the Wolverines and drops UM-Dearborn to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in WHAC play.

Despite the loss, freshman Cody Kegley (FR/Yale, MI) had a career day with 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting, hitting four 3-pointers off the bench. Marcus Williams (SR/Lagos, Nigeria) and Jeff Cain (SR/Lansing, MI ) each added nine points, with all of Cain's points coming on three 3-pointers. Jason Penn (JR/Detroit, MI) and Alex Hagel (SO/Macomb, MI) each scored eight points.

The Wolverines shot 23-of-53 from the field, 7-of-21 from deep and 7-of-16 from the free throw line. UM-Dearborn won the rebounding battle 28-27.

The Gray Wolves were led by Najeeb Johnson with 18 points, while Levert Bristol added 16 points. Lourdes shot 28-of-50 from the field, 6-of-15 from behind the 3-point line and 6-of-9 from the free-throw line.

The Wolverines look to get back on track against No. 20 Indiana Tech at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
