UM-Dearborn falls on the road at Concordia

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team was unable to overcome a late first-half run by Concordia University-Ann Arbor in a Wolverine--Hoosier Athletic Conference contest Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Wolverines were locked in a back-and-forth matchup through much of the first half, but the Cardinals used a late push to take a 10-point lead into the break. UM-Dearborn was unable to rebound from the deficit, falling to Concordia 70-58. The loss drops the Wolverines to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the WHAC.

Marcus Williams (SR/Lagos, Nigeria) led the Wolverine offense with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while hitting three 3-pointers. Williams added a team-high 12 rebounds for a double-double. Jason Penn (JR/Detroit, MI) also finished with a double-double, recording 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while grabbing 10 rebounds. Xavier Crofford (SO/Detroit, MI) added 11 points in the loss.

The Wolverines shot 24-of-64 from the field, 5-of-25 from deep and 5-of-15 from the line. UM-Dearborn was outrebounded 42-36 and had 12 turnovers compared to six assists.

The Cardinals had five players finish in double figures, led by Connor Phee with 18 points, while Luke Diekevers added 15 points. Concordia shot 28-of-60 from the field, 7-of-18 from behind the 3-point line and 7-of-11 from the free-throw line.

The Wolverines look to rebound with a WHAC matchup against Marygrove College at 3 p.m. Saturday in Detroit.
