Wolverines set records in win over Cardinals

DEARBORN, Mich. - A return after nearly a month turned into a one-sided victory for the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team against Concordia University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines scorched the nets in the first half and continued to apply pressure after the break en route to a 99-68 win over the Cardinals, who topped UM-Dearborn last week in Ann Arbor. The win moves the Wolverines, who are undefeated at the Fieldhouse this season, to 11-6 overall and 5-4 in the WHAC.

It was a block party for the Wolverines, as the team accounted for 13 total blocks, which set a new WHAC record for one game. Marcus Williams (SR/Lagos, Nigeria) tied the WHAC mark for a single player with seven.

UM-Dearborn shot 67 percent from the field in the first half, led by Xavier Crofford (SO/Detroit, MI) with 13 points before the break. The Wolverines scored 19 points in the first five minutes after the break as the team heated up from behind the 3-point line. UM-Dearborn finsihed just under 60 percent from the field for the game and hit nine 3-pointers.

Five Wolverines scored in double figures, led by Crofford with 21, including three 3-pointers, while adding five rebounds. Jason Penn (JR/Detroit, MI) was unstoppable in the post, hitting 8-of-11 field goals and finishing with 20 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists.

Williams (SR/Lagos, Nigeria) recorded a double-double, including 16 points and 10 rebounds. Cody Kegley (FR/Yale, MI) came off the bench to shoot a perfect 5-of-5 from the field, while adding five steals. Ashton Curd (JR/Detroit, MI) added 11 points and three assists.

The Wolverines finished 41-of-69 from the field, 9-of-22 from deep and 8-of-14 from the free-throw line. UM-Dearborn took care of the basketball, totaling 17 assists and six turnovers.

Jalen Thompson, Manny Dominguez and Jared McDaniel each scored 11 points to lead the Cardinals, which shot 26-of-60 from the field, 8-of-17 from behind the 3-point line and 8-of-14 from the line.

The Wolverines step out of conference play to take on Adrian College at 3 p.m. Friday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
