Wolverine men rally for big WHAC win over Saints

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn fell behind by 10 points early in the second half, but the Wolverines took over from there, picking up a big Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Wolverines saw the Saints start the second half strong, but a 16-3 run for UM-Dearborn gave them the lead. The teams battled down the stretch, but big shots and late free throws led to a 63-56 win for the Wolverines, who improve to 13-7 overall and 7-5 in the WHAC. The win moves UM-Dearborn into fifth place in the league standings, leapfrogging Aquinas.

Jason Penn (JR/Detroit, MI) led the Wolverines with a strong night inside. He finished with a team-high 22 points on 11-of-13 shooting, while adding seven rebounds.

Marcus Williams (SR/Lagos, Nigeria) hit five 3-pointers, the only 3-pointers in the game for the Wolverines. He finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Xavier Crofford (SO/Detroit, MI) added seven points and eight rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 26-of-51 from the field, 5-of-17 from deep and 6-of-15 from the free-throw line, while finishing with 11 assists and 15 turnovers.

Jake Bullock scored nearly half of the Saints' points, finishing with 27 and adding seven rebounds. Aquinas shot 20-of-60 from the field, 8-of-28 from behind the 3-point line and 8-of-11 on free throws.

The Wolverines return home to take on Lourdes University at 3 p.m. Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse following the Floor Dedication ceremony to celebrate the new hardwood floor.
