Williams' 29 points leads UM-Dearborn past Madonna

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team sank 15 shots from behind the 3-point line as the Wolverines ran away from Madonna University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines were led by Marcus Williams (SR/Lagos, Nigeria) who scored a season-high 29 points, including five 3-pointers as UM-Dearborn cruised to a 91-71 win. UM-Dearborn moves to 12-7 overall and 6-5 in the WHAC. The win total is the most in three years under head coach Taylor Langley.

The Wolverines scored 51 points in the first half to take 11-point lead into the break, as Williams scored 19 points in the first 20 minutes. Williams added four rebounds and two blocks on defense. After a slow start, Jason Penn (JR/Detroit, MI) got rolling down low for the Wolverines, finishing with 14 points, five rebounds and two blocks.

Cody Kegley (FR/Yale, MI) hit three 3-pointers for UM-Dearborn, finishing with 13 points off the bench, while Jeff Cain (SR/Lansing, MI ) added 10 points, including two triples in the opening minutes of the first half.

The Wolverines shot 30-of-60 from the field, 15-of-34 from deep and 16-of-18 from the free-throw line. The UM-Dearborn offense was efficient with 20 assists compared to just four turnovers.

The Crusaders got a team-high 21 points from Khalil Malone, while Austin Johnson added 13 points. Madonna shot 25-of-49 from the field, 6-of-18 from behind the 3-point line and 15-of-18 on free throws, while outrebounding the Wolverines 29-23.

UM-Dearborn heads west to take on Aquinas College in a WHAC contest at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
