Three Wolverines named NAIA Basketball Scholar Athletes

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's and women's basketball seasons recently came to a close with both teams posting successful campaigns on the court. The work of three student-athletes in classroom was honored by the NAIA on Monday.

UM-Dearborn women's basketball student-athletes Megan Swick (JR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Meredith Williams (JR/Novi, Mich.) join men's basketball's Hassan Doghman (SO/Dearborn, MI) as NAIA Scholar Athletes for the 2016-17 academic year, it was reported by the NAIA on Monday.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status, according to the NAIA.

The award is the first for each athlete, while all three were also named to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference All-Academic Team last month.
