Wells triple-double not enough in loss to LTU

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team concluded a three-game homestand against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Lawrence Tech Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines rallied in the third quarter after trailing by nine at the half, but the Blue Devils (RV) hit three 3-pointers in the opening minutes of the fourth to pull away for an 89-72 win. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 13-11 overall and 6-8 in the WHAC.

Mariah Taylor hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the third to cut the LTU lead to four. Three different Blue Devils made a 3-pointer in the opening two minutes of the fourth to help LTU balloon its lead to 13. LTU connected on 18 shots from deep in the game

Ro'Zhane Wells led the Wolverines with a triple-double, finishing with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Taylor led all UM-Dearborn scorers with 18 points off the bench, including three 3-pointers. AJ Fullerton scored 10 of her career-high 13 points in the first half, making three 3-pointers, while Lauryn Carroll added 10 points.

The Wolverines shot 24-of-71 from the field, 8-of-21 from deep and 16-of-17 at the line.

Kaitlyn Smith made nine 3-pointers for the Blue Devils to lead all scorers with 27 points.

UM-Dearborn returns to action at Lourdes University at 8 pm Wednesday in Sylvania, Ohio.
