Wolverines take WHAC matchup 70-57 over Lourdes

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team won its third straight with strong outside shooting and tough interior defense, topping Lourdes University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter with Mariah Taylor leading the way with 11 points in the opening frame. Kayla Knight hit a pair of 3-pointers early in the second half to extend the lead out to 18 and UM-Dearborn went on for a 70-57 win to improve to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn finished with nine total blocks in the win, including a career-high six from freshman Jasia Caldwell. Taylor finished with a team-high 14 points, while Knight added a season-high 12, all on four 3-pointers.

Lauryn Carroll finished with 12 points and five assists, as Ro'Zhane Wells added 10 points. Rachel Bause was a force on the inside, recording eight points and three blocks, to go along with a team-high 12 rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 24-of-58 from the field, 12-of-36 from deep and 10-of-17 from the line.

Lourdes was led by 14 points each from Sara Semler and Sirena Pitts.

The Wolverines travel to Cornerstone University for a WHAC contest at 1 pm Saturday at Mol Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.
