UM-Dearborn holds on for second win in Tennessee

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team earned a second straight win at "The Show" NAIA Showcase against the University of Rio Grande Sunday in Kingsport, Tenn.

The Wolverines led by as many as 16 in the third quarter but had to hold off a late rally by the Storm in the fourth to escape with a 78-75 win. The win pushes UM-Dearborn to 7-4 overall as the team prepares to return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference competition this week.

Ro'Zhane Wells led the Wolverines with 22 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 10 made free throws. She added eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Lauryn Carroll added 16 points, including three 3-pointers, while Maricela Macias had a second straight strong game off the bench with 13 points, four 3-pointers, and five rebounds. Mariah Taylor chipped in with 12 points.

The Wolverines shot 26-of-72 from the field, 10-of-33 from deep and 16-of-27 from the line.

Avery Harper led the Storm with 24 points and 21 rebounds.

UM-Dearborn hosts Lourdes University in a WHAC matchup at 5:30 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
