Wolverines drop WHAC opener to Saints 52-46

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team opened the 2019-20 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season in a defensive battle with Aquinas College Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

After holding a 34-29 lead at the break, the No. 22 Wolverines were held to 12 points in the second half and fell to the Saints (RV) 52-46. The loss is the third straight for UM-Dearborn, which falls to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the WHAC.

Aquinas started quick, scoring the first six points of the contest. UM-Dearborn responded with a 15-2 run to take control and a 20-11 lead after the first. The Saints held the Wolverines to just 5-of-33 from the field and 1-of-16 from deep in the second half to earn the win.

In her second game of the season, senior Sade Lemons finished with 12 points off the bench, all in the first half, for the Wolverines. Lauryn Carroll added 10 points, while Ro'Zhane Wells finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.

UM-Dearborn shot 16-of-61 from the field, 5-of-27 from deep and 9-of-14 from the line, while winning the rebounding battle 36-35.

Daz'Sha Day and JaKarri Alven each scored 12 points to lead the Saints.

UM-Dearborn continues WHAC play against Rochester University at 1 pm Saturday in Rochester Hills, Mich.
