Wolverines pull away late for 84-68 win

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team concluded play at the Blue Devil Classic against Point Park University Saturday in Southfield, Mich.

The Wolverines were unable to pull away for most of the contest but outscored the Pioneers 19-7 in the fourth to secure a second straight win, topping PPU 84-68, to open the season 2-0.

Ro'Zhane Wells scored six of her 17 points in the final 10 minutes to help UM-Dearborn secure the win. Wells added six assists, five rebounds, and three steals.

Mariah Taylor came off the bench to score a team-high 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting, including four 3-pointers, while Lauryn Carroll added 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting and three 3-pointers. Laekyn Jaciuk finished with 13 points, and Cydney Williams chipped in with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 29-of-63 from the field, 14-of-32 from deep and 12-of-17 at the line, while recording 15 assists, 14 steals and 14 turnovers.

Taylor Kirschner led the Pioneers off the bench with 15 points and six rebounds, as PPU outrebounded UM-Dearborn 41-32.

The Wolverines play their first home game of the season against Wright State University-Lake Campus at 2 pm Friday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
