LTU Holds Off UM-Dearborn in OT Thriller

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team dropped a thrilling overtime contest to Lawrence Tech in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Monday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

Down three with 11 seconds to go in regulation, Laekyn Jaciuk took a pass from Cydney Williams and drilled a 3-pointer to tie the game for UM-Dearborn (RV) and send it to overtime.

The Blue Devil defense stifled the Wolverines in the extra frame, holding UM-Dearborn without a point until the final seconds of overtime to escape with the 73-68 win.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 22-6 overall and 14-5 in the WHAC. The Wolverines are in third place in the WHAC standings with one game left in league play. The Wolverines will need a win over Aquinas College on Saturday or a loss by Lawrence Tech to secure a home-court WHAC Postseason Tournament game.

UM-Dearborn trailed in regulation by nine points with 2:54 left to play. The Wolverines closed the fourth quarter on an 11-2 run capped by Jaciuk's triple in the closing seconds.

Ro'Zhane Wells made some crucial baskets down the stretch in regulation and finished with a team-high 20 points, adding eight rebounds, four blocks, four assists, and three steals. Sade Lemons added 14 points, while Jaciuk finished with 10 points off the bench.

The Wolverines shot 23-of-76 from the field, 8-of-28 from deep and 14-of-25 from the line while being outrebounded 50-44.

Nicole Buckingham continued her stellar season with 35 points for LTU, including 10-of-10 at the line and three 3-pointers.

The Wolverines step out of WHAC play to take on Wilberforce University at 5:30 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
