Wolverines drop close matchup at Rochester

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team dropped a tight battle against Rochester College Saturday at Garth Pleasant Arena in Rochester Hills, Mich.

The No. 20 Wolverines led by one at the half and at the end of the third quarter, but the Warriors took a late four-point lead on a 3-pointer from Kim Charney and held on to defeat UM-Dearborn 64-61. The loss drops the Wolverines to 16-4 overall and 8-3 in the WHAC.

With the results on Saturday across the league, UM-Dearborn drops into a four-way tie for second place in the WHAC standings with nine games left in the conference season.

The Wolverines built an early eight-point lead. But the Warriors battled back and neither team built a lead bigger than four after the half. There were six ties and 16 total lead changes in the contest.

Cydney Williams led the Wolverines with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting, while adding six rebounds and three blocks. Sade Lemons added 12 points, while Jeorgia Jones finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Ro'Zhane Wells recorded a team-high 11 rebounds.

UM-Dearborn shot 24-of-69 from the field, 3-of-18 from deep and 10-of-19 from the free-throw line.

Devan Valko led the Warriors with 18 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, while Kendra Kujat added 10 points.

The Wolverines look to break the program record for wins in a season in a road contest against the University of Northwestern Ohio at 5:30 pm Wednesday in Lima, Ohio.
