No. 20 UM-Dearborn ties program record with 16th win

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team tied the program record for wins in a season with their 16th, running away from Cornerstone University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

After a slow start, the No. 20 Wolverines outscored the Golden Eagles 56-21 in the second and third quarters on their way to an 87-54 win. The victory moves UM-Dearborn to 16-3 overall and 8-2 in the WHAC as the conference season reaches the midway point.

With the win, the Wolverines tie the program record for wins in a season set in 1978-79 and later matched in 2008-09.

Down 16-12, UM-Dearborn took control in the second with stingy defense and proficiency from behind the 3-point line. The Wolverines hit six 3-pointers in the frame, including a walk-off shot from Laekyn Jaciuk to close the half with UM-Dearborn up 39-27.

UM-Dearborn hit another six 3-pointers in the third, including three from Sade Lemons, who finished with a team-high 19 points.

Chloe Godbold came off the bench to score 12 points, including nine in the fourth. Lauryn Carroll hit three 3-pointers to finish with nine points, while Ro'Zhane Wells and Jaciuk each added 8.

UM-Dearborn shot 33-of-72 from the field, 15-of-35 from deep and 6-of-11 from the line while recording 28 assists and 10 turnovers.

Shelby Nyboer led the Golden Eagles with 18 points, shooting 9-for-13 from the field.

UM-Dearborn looks to set a new program record for wins in a WHAC contest against Rochester College at 1 pm on Saturday in Rochester Hills, Mich.
