DEARBORN, Mich. – The newly minted No. 23 team in the nation, the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team, kept the historic start to their season rolling, topping Concordia University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
Leading by 10 at the break, UM-Dearborn held Concordia to just 15 points in the second half. A pair of 3-pointers from Sade Lemons put the game out reach midway through the third and the Wolverines cruised to a 68-43 victory to improve to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the WHAC.
The 25-point margin of victory is the largest for UM-Dearborn in WHAC game since the Wolverines topped former conference member Marygrove College by 29 on January 20, 2016.
Lemons continued to lead the Wolverines offensively, scoring a team-high 18 points, including three 3-pointers. She has led the Wolverines in scoring in each victory during the current five-game win streak, finishing with at least 17 points in all five outings.
Jeorgia Jones narrowly missed a double-double, recording 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while adding eight rebounds and four assists. Cydney Williams made an impact on both ends of the floor, finishing with nine points, five rebounds, four blocks and two steals.
The Wolverines shot 27-of-72 from the field, 7-of-27 from deep and 7-of-8 from the line, while outrebounding the Cardinals 43-40.
Concordia was led by Katie Snow with a game-high 19 points. She added 11 rebounds for a double-double.
The Wolverines travel to Lawrence Tech (RV) for a crucial early-season WHAC contest at 6 pm Wednesday in Southfield, Mich.
